Why did Northvolt go under in the end?

Was Northvolt a serious attempt to create Europe's only battery factory?
Where and when did it all implode? And whose fault is it?

Part 1: Camping in the lab – the beginning of the green dream

This is the story of how everything started – and how it started to go wrong. We take it from the beginning and start with the early warning signs.

Many of the people Norran has talked to have similar testemonies about what it was like on the factory floor in Skellefteå. Emma Nehrenheim was responsible for recycling at Revolt.

Part 2: Chaos Inc.:Barbie Wonderland and a production out of sync

Problems are piling up but Northvolt’s management do not slow down the pace. Quite the contrary. Now it is time to kick off the proper production at Northvolt Ett. Thousands of people are hired in a short space of time. Getting them all to work towards the same goal will prove to be easier said than done.

The company ran out of time and money and Peter Carlsson was under increased pressure.

Part 3:The path towards downfall and catastrophic headlines

In January news arrive that Northvolt has secured the biggest green loan in Europe to date, 50 new healthy billions. But the loan is attached to tough conditions. And still very few battery cells are produced in Skellefteå. Everything is balancing precariously and soon it starts to tip over.

Peter Carlsson finally choses to give his account of the time at Northvolt to Norran's readers.

Part 4: After the bankruptcy: Peter Carlsson breaks his silence

On 12 March Northvolt’s former MD Peter Carlsson stormed out of the press conference after the company's bankruptcy announcement. Since then he has not been speaking to media.

Now he talks to Norran in a long interview about the feelings of guilt, suspicion of crime – and what he regrets.

– It’s been terrible living with this, everyone who's been impacted by this, says Peter Carlsson.
