An area of intense precipitation is moving north. This afternoon, it will move into Västerbotten, bringing a risk of thunderstorms and localised flooding. SMHI has issued a torrential rain warning for the southernmost parts of the county.
The precipitation will move in from the south around lunchtime, with the rain expected to reach the northern parts of the county later in the afternoon.
Maria Svedestig, an SMHI meteorologist, said:
– It is moving in a northeasterly direction and is forming quite broadly. It appears to be developing all the time.
She added that the inland municipalities in central Västerbotten have the highest chance of experiencing intense rain showers.
– There may be some showers on the coast, but the risk is greater if you are inland. There is a greater risk in Bastuträsk than in Skelleftehamn, for example.
Simultaneously, warnings for high temperatures and forest fires remain in effect over northern Västerbotten.
When asked about thunderstorms, Maria Svedestig responded:
– There is a high risk of thunderstorms here. We will see what type of precipitation there will be; there could be some hail here too.
In addition to southern Västerbotten, torrential rain warnings have also been issued for Jämtland and Västernorrland.
