A weather warning from SMHI covered almost all of Västerbotten and parts of neighboring counties until 1:00 am on Friday. The thunderstorm was expected to bring heavy rain, very strong winds, and a risk of hail and flooding.
Skellefteå Kraft reports that seven brief outages affected a total of 1,872 customers.
– We had six longer outages that affected 1,643 customers. These were outages that took more time to fix, says Elin Ala, press officer at Skellefteå Kraft.
As of 8:30 am, she stated that nine customers were still without power.
– That is a sign that, given the circumstances, we have managed the problems well. But thunderstorms are tricky – you never know where they will strike.
She says the areas south and west of Skellefteå were the hardest hit.
According to the company’s service information page, around 200 households in villages near Bygdsiljum had been without electricity for more than nine hours.
– But not everyone has been without power for that long. The power may have been sectioned off, and some were without power until around 1 am, says Elin Ala.
