Airport Manager Robert Lindberg has had a challenging end to 2023 and beginning of 2024 as it becomes clear that two out of the three regular operators at Stockholm are withdrawing.
Norran recently reported that Ryanair would be discontinuing its route to Stockholm from Skellefteå Airport. Skellefteå will be removed from the summer schedule, meaning the last departure is March 29.
Now another of the three regular routes to Stockholm that Skellefteå had in 2023 will disappear.
The airline BRA has no traffic between Skellefteå and Bromma in 2024. In 2023 there were flights twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays.
– No, we will no longer fly to Skellefteå, says Malin Brandtvig from BRA's press office to Norran and continues:
BRA is the airline that has had a regular route between Skellefteå Airport and Stockholm Bromma.
– The customer base was so low that we decided the route was no longer a priority. We constantly evaluate our routes.
BRA (Braathens Regional Airlines), a merger of Malmö Aviation and Sverigeflyg, applied on October 19 last year for corporate reconstruction for seven of the group's thirteen companies.
According to Brandtvig, it was a purely business decision that led to the suspension. BRA has flown to Skellefteå airport since 2021.
From April, SAS will be the only operator offering the Skellefteå-Stockholm route.
In less than a month, the reality for Skellefteå Airport has changed. BRA has abruptly ceased its traffic to Bromma, and Ryanair is only flying to Arlanda until March.
