Police: Don't venture into woods alone during dangerous heat

In recent days, the police have handled several cases where people have gotten lost in nature – right in the middle of the heatwave.
Policeregion Nord is now issuing a reminder to take precautions before going on a trip.

Flera personer har behövt undsättning på grund av att de gått vilse i skogen de senaste dagarna.

The Skellefteå police recently shared some crucial tips for anyone planning to venture into the forest during the current heatwave, noting that "dangerous situations can arise given the prevailing heat."

Before heading out, they advise carrying a fully charged mobile phone, plenty of water, some food, brightly coloured clothing or a reflective vest, and a whistle. It's also important to protect yourself from the sun.

The Skellefteå police also recommend not going alone. If you do go solo, be sure to inform someone of your whereabouts.

Should you get lost, don't hesitate to call for help. The police suggest staying in a high or open area, as helicopters are often used in searches. If you come across a road or forest path, don't leave it. Either stay put or walk in one direction. Listen for sounds like a police siren and move towards them if you hear them.
