Although the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) owns the E4, the city has the power to set speed limits. A speed reduction is now planned for the section between Viktoriabron and the roundabout at Sörböle.
The speed limit, which was previously 70 kilometres per hour, will be reduced to 50 kilometres per hour. The reason is that the city wants to make the traffic flow more smoothly on the E4 through the city. The section where the speed is being lowered is 250 meters long, and the time lost is considered minor since most vehicles won’t reach a higher speed over such a short distance.
The proposal was sent for review to Trafickverket and the police, and they had no objections to the new rules. The change will take effect on May 30.
Otherwise, there will be no changes to the speed limits on the E4. From the south, the speed will remain 70 kilometres per hour past the Tjärn industrial area and Anderstorp.
