In a mere two months, a substantial new concrete building has rapidly emerged in the Degerbyn industrial area, west of Skellefteå. While still far from completion, the objective is for this building to serve as the "head office" for lifting and transport company Jinert's northern Sweden operations by the end of the year.
– It’s a perfect location for us geographically – not too far from Örnsköldsvik in the south, the inland wind farms, or Kiruna in the north. The idea is for our northern Sweden operations to be based here, says site manager Gustav Israelsson during Norran's visit.
Jinert, established in 1988 in Hässleholm, had a limited presence in Norrland previously. It wasn't until their 2022 acquisition of Bastuträsk-based TWT Kran AB that they truly cemented their regional foothold.
– When I started last July, there were five of us here. Now we’re 15 in Skellefteå, says regional manager Robin Vikström.
The multi-million kronor investment in Skellefteå was decided in late 2023. At that time, the city's market was exceptionally vibrant, characterised by significant developments and a booming housing sector. Despite recent setbacks at Northvolt, the team at Jinert remains unconcerned.
– No, we haven’t really felt much of an impact yet, as many construction projects are still ongoing. In a year or so the situation might be different, but we have the advantage of working across all of northern Sweden. In places like Luleå and Boden, for example, the market is red-hot, says Robin.
Withdrawing from the investment due to Skellefteå's changing situation has never been considered.
– No, if anything, we’ve accelerated even more. There’s never been any talk of slowing down, says Robin, reiterating that Skellefteå is a strategically sound geographical choice.
– We’re investing heavily in the next 30 years – and we’ll keep investing here in the north, he says.
The new premises, constructed with concrete blocks from Norsjö, will feature facilities for servicing and repairing the company’s vehicles and equipment, a spacious wash hall, offices, storage, and a gym.
– There are no current premises like this to rent or buy. This will be custom-built for our operations, says Gustav, explaining the specially reinforced floor.
– When we lower the support legs on the crane trucks, ordinary concrete flooring won’t do – it would crack.
The plan is to commence interior finishing in approximately two weeks, with the building slated for completion sometime before winter.
– It feels great to work for a company that wants to invest, and to be part of building something solid here. When I started a year ago, this was just a gravel lot and some forest, says Robin with a smile.
