SkellefteÄ Airport is still waiting to hear if it will be nationalized.
The proposal for SkellefteÄ's nationalization was presented by government investigator Peter Norman in February 2023. Norman's inquiry aimed to ensure basic accessibility for citizens and businesses through a network of state-owned airports. SkellefteÄ was proposed to become Swedavia's eleventh airport, with negotiations urged between the state and the municipality.
Despite repeated inquiries, Burman states that "nothing" has progressed on the issue since the proposal. He emphasizes the need for a clear decision to prevent stagnation and advocate for airport development, including a new terminal.
The municipality's willingness to invest hinges on a long-term agreement with shared ownership responsibility.

However, the fate of SkellefteÄ Airport's ownership still remains uncertain a year on from Norman's recommendation.
Municipal Councilor Lorents Burman (S) has now stated unequivocally that the municipality is willing to invest in a new terminal at SkellefteÄ Airport, even if the airport is nationalized, under certain conditions.
