William and Astrid, who topped the list in 2022, have dropped to third and ninth place respectively.

Unlike previous years, when Statistics Sweden (Statistiska centralbyrån) published the list of names, it is now the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) that compiles the statistics.

"It is very exciting to take over and provide this service, as it is so popular among expectant parents," says statistician Caroline Ledin in a press release.

While Noah has a slight lead over second-place Hugo (622), with 655 boys born with the name last year, it is extremely close on the girls' side.

Only one child separates Elsa (588) and Vera (587).
