A major fire broke out at the old dairy in Lövånger on Sunday afternoon. Firefighters worked through the night to stop the blaze from spreading, but the building was completely lost.
The thunderstorm made their efforts difficult, forcing them to temporarily halt operations for safety.
Thankfully, no one was hurt. However, because of the building's historical significance to the village, its destruction is a deep loss for the community.
Around ten o'clock on Monday morning, small pockets of fire were still visible through the upstairs windows. A few firefighters remained at the scene.
Ulrika Östensson, a nearby resident, stated she was one of the people who alerted authorities.
– It was around four o'clock when I heard a loud bang and started to smell smoke, she recalled.
She called SOS Alarm and was informed she was the second person to report the fire, confirming it was indeed the old dairy building.
According to her, there was also a fire on the property a few years ago, but in a different building.
– It's truly sad, of course - the building has deep roots in the village's history, she said.
