The musical is set in 1905 in Anatevka, a Jewish settlement in Tsarist Russia, now part of Ukraine. The protagonist, Tevye, struggles to preserve Jewish traditions against his daughters' desire to marry men of their own choice. This family conflict unfolds against a backdrop of external unrest and the persecution of Jews.
Fiddler on the Roof is a musical that combines both joy and sorrow in its melodies. It's a story of both comedy and tragedy.
Västerbottensteatern is now looking for enthusiastic amateur actors, both adults and children. As in many previous summer seasons, amateur actors will have the opportunity to take part in Fiddler on the Roof. This time, they are looking for theater-loving adults up to 70 years old and children ages 10 to 14 who want to be a part of the production.
– There are three children's roles in the production, and the children will be divided into two teams. So we are looking for a total of six actors for these roles, says Lillemor Skogheden, amateur theater consultant at Västerbottensteatern.
Summer theatre is a strong tradition in Skellefteå. This year's ensemble consists of 23 actors, singers and dancers, 14 of whom are amateurs.
– It is a great feeling to work with so many amateurs. I hope they will have a real summer adventure and be creative in their work. Being part of a summer theater company is like getting a new theater family. You can expect a lot of joy, laughter, and intense work during rehearsals. But also just for the sheer pleasure of performing for a fantastic summer theater audience, says Lillemor.
