One year ago, Evelyne and Daniel Weber from Aargau in northern Switzerland made the significant move to Kina. It's a considerable distance from their alpine homeland to this village, located about two kilometers south of Rentjärn, north-west of Skellefteå. There, at the end of the road, stands a house constructed in 1927.
– In 2023 we were on a five-month-long trip in Sweden, and we started looking for a house to buy, says Daniel Weber.
Although nothing materialised then, in March 2024, they discovered their dream home on the website Hemnet. It was in Kina, prompting the family to gather their belongings and relocate.
– We had realised that northern Sweden was the place for us and the location with beautiful nature right outside our door was perfect for us, says Evelyne.
They moved to Sweden primarily because they found Switzerland too densely populated.
– Switzerland has the same population as Sweden, but there is ten times as much space here, Daniel says.
During winter, they renovated the house's interior, which involved changing all the floors, painting, and hanging wallpaper. Their goal is to earn a living from tourism activities, the farm shop, and growing vegetables.
– We’re not trying to become rich, we just want to live a more calm and harmonious life, says Evelyne Weber.
They managed a soft launch last summer, hosting some guests at their farm in Kina. Now, this summer, WTF – Weber’s Tiny Farm – is in full swing. The couple has prepared five camping spots and a tent for guests arriving from all over Europe.
– We’ve built a sauna with a cold shower and this summer we’re also building bathrooms so that the guests do not have to use our private bathroom, Daniel says.
Adding a rental cabin is also high on the couple’s investment list.
– We’ll see if we have time to get it in place this summer, says Evelyne.
A farm shop is also in the pipeline. They've started small scale, selling eggs from their own Hedemora chickens.
– The locals have also started to find their way here to buy eggs, Evelyne says.
The plan is to sell their own vegetable produce, grown both outdoors and in a large greenhouse the couple has built.
– The summer has not been great for vegetable growing so far, but we hope it’ll get better, says Daniel.
They also offer guests the chance to join them on fishing or snowmobile trips. Additionally, in collaboration with Paws of Björnlund, guests can go on treks with their Alaskan Huskies.
Here are a few ways to improve the English, keeping the original quote format:
Evelyne Weber, an accountant, previously worked in administration, most recently within the healthcare sector in her home region. In Kina, she now runs the company Redovisning och Bokföring av Evelyne.
Before the move to Kina, Daniel initially worked as a bricklayer and carpenter. In the years leading up to the relocation, he managed a building supply store. In Kina, Daniel has established Weber Allround, a company where he offers carpentry, sells picnic tables, performs general all-round jobs, gardening, renovation work, and acts as a caretaker for holiday homes.
– In the last year I have, for example, been hired to renovate the baker’s cabin in Rentjärn where the bricks in the chimney had started to come loose, Daniel says.
