Power grid falters: Skellefteå hit by thunderstorms

The intense heat is over – now unstable weather is moving in.
After a weekend of shifting weather, bringing thunderstorms, torrential rain, and sunshine, SMHI is now warning of new thunderstorms.
Simultaneously, SMHI has extended its warning for a very high risk of forest fires.

UPDATE: 11:00
A train is standing still two stops from Bastuträsk, where it was supposed to arrive at 09.50. The reason is a lightning strike, reports SR's traffic editorial team .

The train has stopped at Tvärålund just south of Vindeln and was heading north. According to SR, the thunderstorm caused a signal error and problems with a barrier system.

The outage occurred at 8:30 a.m. Replacement buses have been deployed for some departures. There is no forecast for when the problem may be resolved.

Thousands of households were without power last night when a thunderstorm swept through the Skellefte area. Large parts of Ursviken and Skelleftehamn were without power, with a total of over 2,500 households without power for over an hour.

There were also several different power outages for a total of thousands of households in villages from Dalkarsliden in the south to Kusmark in the north.
