SMHI issues warning for high temperatures and fire risk

From Friday 11 July and the whole weekend, high temperatures are expected in large parts of Norrland.
It may get up to 30 degrees.

On Thursday afternoon SMHI sent out a message to large parts of Norrland. They are spreading awareness about the weekend bringing high temperatures and encourage people in risk groups to prepare.

– Warm air continues to come in from the east and it is expected to stay warm for at least three days in a row, says Emma Härenstam at SMHI.

The temperature may get up to between 26 and 30 degrees. According to the forecast it looks like it may become somewhat cooler in Skellefteå.

– In general there is no increased risk for the public. You should of course remember to drink plenty of water if you’re carrying out physical activities, Emma Härenstam says.

A related warning was issued on Thursday for a forest fire risk in the inland of Västerbotten.

Causes of forest fires is, according to SMHI, setting fires, sparks from machines and lightning strikes. The general population is therefore encouraged to be very careful when starting fires or working with big machines.

The warning applies until 23:00 on Friday but may come to be extended.
