The extreme heat is on its way out, but not before two more days of very high temperatures persist throughout the day in Skellefteå. On Thursday, temperatures are expected to stay above 30 degrees Celsius for ten hours - from 10 AM to 8 PM.

— This is due to a high-pressure system that has been lingering over northern Sweden, trapping the warm air, so it can't escape. On top of that, there are plenty of sunny hours, so the temperature doesn't get a chance to drop very low, says Niklas Einevik, a meteorologist at SMHI.

In addition to the heat, there's hardly any wind, so the warm air remains stagnant. To cope with the hot hours, Einevik primarily advises Skellefteå residents to stay out of the sun, drink water, and keep themselves as cool as possible.

— If you don't have air conditioning at home, it might be a good idea to try and find a place that does, such as a shopping centre or similar.

Friday is also expected to be a very hot day, with temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius between 11 AM and 6 PM, according to Wednesday's forecast.

After that, the sun and heat are expected to disappear, with the weekend seeing a maximum of 24 degrees Celsius. — The high-pressure system loses strength late on Friday, and it will get a few degrees cooler.

Over Saturday and Sunday, a cold front will pass over the Skellefteå area. You can expect rain and colder, cooler weather, says Einevik.
