Summer is short – but there are plenty of adventures in Skellefteå. So regardless of whether the sun is shining or the rain is pouring down there is something to discover each day. What will your family’s summer favourite be?
1. Take a warm dip – swim in heated pools
When the sea still feels a bit icy a dip in a heated pool is a good alternative. Kågebadet, Vitbergsbadet and Byskebadet offer playing a splashing about in a pleasant temperature – perfect for the first swimming strokes or a full day with swim rings and water fights.
2. Miniature adventure at Lilleputtlandet
You will find Lilleputtlandet in Stämningsgården. Here you can jump around in bouncy castles, pet animals, dig for hidden treasures or go on a boat in the boat pond. A whole day in the children’s own miniature world – complete with an ice cream break and lots of running around free.
3. Fika with a view and children’s play – visit a summer café
Skellefteå is full of charming cafés in beautiful environments. Stackgrönnan, Tuvagården and Kyrkholmen offer both coffee and cake as well as activities for children. At Svedjan Ost you can sip your coffee while the children are looking at grazing cows in the field.
4. Saviour on a rainy day – go to the cinema
When the clouds are looming in the sky and the raindrops start hitting your windows, the cinema is a saviour. This summer the cinema will show films such as Jurassic World Rebirth, How to Train Your Dragon and Lilo & Stitch. The darkness, popcorn and excitement will make every rainy day into a nice memory.
5. Film time at home – Netflix and summer snacks
Some days you just want to stay at home. Prepare some snacks, lower the lights and have cosy film time in the living room. Children’s favourites like Trolls 3, KPop Demon Hunters and Super Mario Bros. These are some of the most popular films in Netflix.
6. Explore the magic of science at Exploratoriet
This summer Exploratoriet puts on a new experiment show with Kommissarie Räv. The children get to solve mysteries, experiment and look at stars in the planetarium. An instructive break from the beach – open every day between 11–16.
7. Bounce off at Trampolinhuset
Trampolinhuset is the place for kids to use their surplus energy. There are bouncy areas in different levels of difficulty – both for beginners and future acrobats. While the children are jumping you can take a break in the café and enjoy some peace and quiet in the chaos.
8. Learn through play – visit Barnsia at Nordanå
Skellefteå museum features Barnsia – a playful local history environment for children aged 0–6. It is free of charge to play, climb and explore in a safe and inspiring environment where history is brought to life through the children's curiosity.
9. See the circus mystery at Sara kulturhus
The south foyer of Sara has this year’s children’s exhibition: Lassemaja & Cirkusmysteriet. Step into the world of detectives, solve mysteries and step out as a full-fledged little detective. Free and good for curious brains of primary school age.
10. Fish for free with the youth fishing licence
Do you have children under the age of 16? They can fish for free in several places in the municipality – thanks to the youth fishing licence. Cast your hook in Klintforsån or Bureälven and let the silence and excitement take over.
11. Lovely animals in the countryside
Do the children want to meet animals close up? Visit the 4H-farm in Byske or Vikdalsfarmen where cuddly sheep, mini pigs and bunnies are waiting for a pat and a carrot. A good excursion for animal-loving little souls.
12. Cooling baths at child-friendly beaches
Skellefteå offers several spots with shallow waters – perfect for small children. Boviken, Sjöbosand and Danielsten in Bureå are some of the beaches where the swimwear never has a chance to dry between dips and ice cream breaks.
13. Compete in crazy golf – who will be the family’s champion?
At Skellefteå camping, Byske camping or Norrböle (by Eddahallen) there are courses where families can challenge each other in classic crazy golf. Play to win or for laughs.
14. Cycle in the biggest bike park in Scandinavia
In summer Vitberget is transformed into a bike oasis with pump tracks, skills loop and mountain bike trails for all skill levels. An adrenaline-filled activity for the whole family.
15. Hike together in the tranquil nature
Start the day with stillness and bird song. Suit a trail that suits the children’s energy level – perhaps Furögrundsleden with a sea view, Grytsundsleden through forests and open fields or Mineralleden where nature and history goes hand in hand. Pack lemonade and buns and let the conversation flow.
