Winter clothes back in storage as May temperatures surge

Warm weather is coming to Skellefteå.
Next week, temperatures could reach up to 19 degrees, according to SMHI.
– It's bringing in mild air from Västra Götaland, says meteorologist Toni Fuentes.

The temperature is expected to rise already this weekend, as the mild air begins to move in. On Sunday it could reach 10–12 degrees, and by Monday it might climb to 16 degrees in some areas.

Tuesday is forecast to be particularly warm: around 18–19 degrees.

– It looks like there will be some variable cloud cover, but it will still be warm, says Toni Fuentes, on-duty meteorologist at SMHI.

The warmth will reach large parts of Norrland as milder air moves in from Västra Götaland, he says. Southern Sweden won’t get quite as warm.

– The mild air will stick around for a few days, until about Wednesday. But even on Thursday and Friday, temperatures are expected to remain relatively high.

How common is this?

– Right now, these are fairly normal temperatures for May. But starting Sunday, the temperatures will be above – or even well above – average for this time of year, says Fuentes.
