333 million kronor has been allocated to Nordion Energi and Finnish Gasgrid’s hydrogen pipeline, which will run from Örnsköldsvik to Vaasa via Luleå, with a branch extending up to Kiruna.
– This is great news for Sweden and Swedish industry, said Björn Santana Arvidsson, deputy CEO of Nordion Energi H2, in a press release.
–The co-financing is key to building an efficient hydrogen infrastructure that will drive industrial transformation.
The Nordic Hydrogen Route project plans to build a 1,300-kilometer hydrogen pipeline, aiming for completion by 2030 and further expansion by 2050. Consultations about the pipeline's route near Luleå took place last fall.
Nordion Energi is also part of another EU-funded hydrogen project with Gasgrid and Copenhagen Energy Islands (Denmark) called the Baltic Sea Hydrogen Collector. This project, connecting Sweden, Finland, and Denmark, has been granted 172 million kronor by the European Commission.
The European Commission is allocating a total of 14 billion kronor to projects aimed at building energy infrastructure across borders within the EU. The funding is part of the EU's plans to develop a trans-European energy network.
