Invitations had been sent to everyone who had registered as residents in the municipality over the past one and a half years and who still lived here when the invites were mailed.
– At last year's event, Skellefteå had seen even more newcomers, so we only invited those who had lived here for one year. But this time we widened the target group a bit, explains Sofia Sturesson, who was responsible for the event on behalf of Skellefteå municipality. The main organiser was Skellefteå Welcome House.
Sebnem Sanli, whose family who may only be able to stay in Sweden for a few more months, attended with her husband Aytac and their daughters Bigen and Milda. The couple have worked at Northvolt and have lived in Skellefteå for two and a half years. They are now urgently searching for jobs across the country.
– But we would really prefer to stay here; the girls have made friends here and want to stay, says Sebnem. The deadline for them to find new jobs is the end of July.

Many local associations took part to inform newcomers about their activities and, ideally, offer something fun for families with children. There was painting, crafts, face painting, pony riding and many other activities.
There was live entertainment on stage, including three performances by Carolina Miskovsky.

Given the recent spell of cold weather, the organisers were in luck. The sun brought some much-needed warmth, though powerful gusts of wind sent brochures flying, so marketing material became, literally, flyers.
