Demands back SEK 235,000 from Northvolt

The fact that Northvolt has gone bankrupt stops its participation in a Vinnova project – the authority now demands back parts of the grant.

As Northvolt has gone bankrupt it can no longer carry out its part of the research project.

Northvolt was part of a research project on industrially standardised data models that was funded by Vinnova with just over SEK 13 million. Northvolt was awarded a grant of almost SEK 408,000. As Northvolt has gone bankrupt it can no longer carry out its part of the project. That is why Vinnova is cancelling the funding and demanding back just over SEK 235,000 they have given Northvolt as a grant. The remaining part of the Northvolt grant, amounting to around SEK 128,000 is now withheld.

The project is coordinated by Luleå University of Technology. Other project partners are Eurostep AB, Granitor Systems AB, Roslagsvatten AB, Sinetiq AB and Stora Enso AB. These parties intend to and are able to complete the project without Northvolt.

The project was started in June 2023 and will be concluded in December 2026.

It is a part of Arrowhead fPVN which is an ambitious European digitalisation project that aims to double productivity within industry by automating and simplifying exchange of information in production networks.

Many current industrial systems are isolated and require manual management of data. This project wants to eliminate these bottlenecks and create a more resilient and adaptive production network. The wanted result is lower costs, faster processes and increased flexibility.

The project develops technology that makes it possible for machines, systems and actors within industry to communicate automatically – without having to translate data manually.
