”Lyten will take full ownership of Northvolt Dwa ESS”, the company writes.
Lyten also states that it intends to ”immediately restart production Gdansk”.
Lyten has previously acquired Northvolt’s operations in California, TT reports.
The factory makes what is known as BESS systems (battery energy storage system) that are used for temporary stationary electricity systems or to store energy in industrial contexts. It is a completely different type of product than car batteries. Lyten describes the factory as the largest of its kind in Europe.
The focus is on lithium-sulphur technology that does not use nickel, cobalt, manganese or graphite – as opposed to the batteries made in Skellefteå. The factory has an order book that is full up until 2026.
The company is a part of Northvolt Systems which is a separate company from Northvolt Ett AB and Northvolt Revolt AB which are the companies for sale in Skellefteå.
Robert Chryc-Gawrychowski, MD of Northvolt Poland, writes in the press release:
“Northvolt set out to lead the sustainable development of Europe’s battery industry. Lyten is carrying that mission forward with BESS manufacturing and the introduction of lithium-sulphur batteries in Europe.”
