According to reports, Carlsson has joined Aris Machina, a company developing software for “manufacturing, factory design and production.” Swedish news site Breakit indicates that Carlsson holds a substantial stake in Aris Machina, estimated to be between 25 and 50%. The startup is currently operating out of a co-working space in central Stockholm.
Aris Machina is led by Carlsson's former Northvolt colleague, Siddharth Khullar, who serves as the company's CEO and also holds a stake in the venture. Khullar joined Northvolt in 2022 as a machine learning engineer and later became the company’s VP of software. Before his time at Northvolt, Khullar worked as an engineer at tech giant Apple.
As previously reported by Bloomberg, Carlsson and Khullar’s new venture is developing an industrial software platform that uses machine learning to optimise factory operations. Their technology aims to streamline production, predict maintenance needs, and enhance quality control by integrating with existing factory systems, minimising the need for extensive new infrastructure.
While the exact figures of their funding round remain undisclosed, the venture has reportedly attracted notable venture capital firms from both Europe and Silicon Valley, particularly those specialising in industrial technology.
This timing aligns with a growing demand from manufacturers seeking to reduce costs and navigate complex supply chains, a need that Aris Machina aims to address with software rather than hardware.
This is a hot area in the tech world right now. The AI market for manufacturing is growing fast, and Carlsson and Khullar may have jumped in at just the right moment. By creating tools that help factories work smarter and more efficiently, they're betting on a technology that could save companies a lot of money and prevent costly production problems.
Despite the recent collapse of Northvolt, sources familiar with the deal suggest that Carlsson's involvement has been a key factor in securing investor confidence.
His reputation within the hardware and production sectors remains strong, and some view Aris Machina as a potential opportunity for him to rebuild his reputation after Northvolt's bankruptcy.
After all, let's not forget that Carlsson has plenty of experience with problem machinery from his days at Northvolt.
