Last week, it was announced that Northvolt will stop all production in Skellefteå by 30 June. It is now clear that around 400 more factory workers will have to leave their jobs.

– At the moment, around 600 floor workers are employed at Northvolt, which means about 200 will remain, says Victoria Hart, Northvolt employee and union representative for IF Metall.

The information has started to be communicated to employees. According to Hart, those affected will leave almost immediately.

– They’re returning their equipment this week. That’s the plan, as I understand it.

It is unclear how many white-collar staff will remain.

In the coming weeks, the 200 factory workers who are staying will begin shutting down parts of the plant and completing the battery units already in production.

– There will be no new battery production. They will only finish the ones already started, says Hart.

What will happen after 30 June is currently unknown.

– Some may remain to look after the site and make sure the machines don’t break down. But exactly what will happen in the coming period, we don’t know right now.
